As described in the Faculty Handbook (Section II.O), faculty members at Williams are provided with modest research and travel allowances on an annual basis. In addition, a number of fellowship and grant competitions provide opportunities for more substantial awards, and some departments and programs have funds to support faculty scholarship. Faculty members are also encouraged to seek outside funding in support of their research. More information on finding internal and external funding can be found on the External and Internal Funding Sources page.
When all budgeted sources of faculty, department, or program funds have been exhausted or otherwise committed, the Dean of Faculty can sometimes make supplemental awards, depending on the nature of the request and the availability of discretionary funds or suitable endowments. Travel to conferences or research sites is commonly funded, but other research expenses are sometimes supported as well. Please see College spending guidelines for a list of several common examples of allowable expenses.
Please fill out the form below to request consideration for a funding supplement. Your request will automatically be forwarded to the Dean of Faculty’s Office. Please allow two to three weeks for a response.
