Periodic Self Study & Review

Scheduled approximately every ten years, the self-study and external review process is an opportunity for each department and program to consult with an external group of experts regarding the current state of the art among undergraduate programs in their field of study.

The process is also meant to provide the CAP with an overview of the unit’s faculty composition, its curriculum and learning objectives, and its success in meeting those objectives over the previous decade. The data collected as part of the self-study process serve to inform that assessment.

Finally, the process is forward looking, addressing the unit’s vision for the future and its preparedness to respond to developments in the field.  The written recommendations of the external review team are considered by the unit and the CAP, and together they discuss next steps.

This iterative process of self-assessment and external review ensures that the college’s academic program will continue to meet the standards for accreditation.
