Calls for Proposals:

  • Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation: It’s that time of year again! The leaves are falling, there’s the occasional nip of frost in the air, and the annual request for proposals from the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation has arrived.The Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation awards fellowships to faculty in all disciplines with the aim to stimulate and broaden the awardees’ minds so as to improve and enhance the quality of their instruction. Grants are primarily for travel and related expenses and not as salary substitutes, scholarships, or grants in aid.

    The grants office will be submitting all applications to the Whiting Foundation. Please contact us, if you are interested in applying.

    Applications are due January 6, 2023. Award winners will be notified by email by April 3, 2023.

     

  • Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA): The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is starting a new fellowship program for early-career researchers. While this is designed to be a two-year position for individuals that have received their Ph.D. within the past five years, as part of the program DARPA is also creating a one-year opportunity for faculty that may be on sabbatical leave. The early-career restriction will not apply to these individuals. Ideal candidates will be able to leverage this experience at their home institution with students who are underrepresented in STEM fields, with a focus on national security.To begin the application process, a cover letter describing your background and interest in the program and CV or resume should be emailed to [email protected]. The initial class of DARPA Innovation Fellows is expected to start in January 2023, with additional classes starting every six months.

  • Registration is still open for the Fall 2022 NSF Virtual Grants Conference to be held November 14 – 17, 2022! This is a great way to learn more about NSF proposal development, programs, policies, etc.

  • The grants office is in the process of relocating all of our team members to Hopkins Hall. Two of us are already there! You can find us on the fourth floor in room 405.

Upcoming Opportunities:

  • Arnold & Mabel Beckman Foundation – Mass Spectrometry for Atmospheric Monitoring – CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Support for the development of new instrument designs to bring the most advanced mass spectrometry detection capabilities and sensitivity levels into a lightweight, inexpensive, and easily operated system. Seeking program teams based within a university or non-profit research institution with the ability to engage undergraduate students in research to build novel mass spec instruments.  The intent of the program is to support scientists, with a focus on undergrads, to become inventors and innovators.  Funding of up to $1 million per selected team over 3 years.  Applications due November 18, 2022. 
  •  NEH – Scholarly Editions and Translations Grants: Provides grants to organizations to support collaborative teams who are editing, annotating, and translating foundational humanities texts that are vital to scholarship but are currently inaccessible or only available in inadequate editions or translations. Maximum award amount of $300K for one to three years.  Applications due November 30, 2022. 
  • NEH – Collaborative Research Grants: Supports sustained collaboration by teams of two or more scholars. Teams may propose research in a single field of study or interdisciplinary work.  NEH encourages projects that incorporate multiple points of view and pursue new avenues of inquiry in the humanities.  Awards of up to $250K for up to three years (depending upon funding category).  Applications due November 30, 2022. 
  • American Philosophical Society – Franklin Research Grants: Designed to help meet the costs of travel to libraries and archives for research purposes; the purchase of microfilm, photocopies, or equivalent research materials; the costs associated with fieldwork; or laboratory research expenses.  Funding is offered up to a maximum of $6,000.  Applications due December 1, 2022.
  • New York Public Library: Schomburg Center – Scholars-in-Residence Program: Offers both long-term and short-term fellowships designed to support and encourage top-quality research and writing on the history, politics, literature, and culture of the peoples of Africa and the African diaspora, as well as to promote and facilitate interdisciplinary exchange among scholars and writers in residence at the Schomburg Center. Deadline to apply is Thursday, December 1, 2022.
  • The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine: Ford Foundation Fellowships: Through its program of fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Faculty who earned their Ph.D. no earlier than 12/8/2015 are eligible to apply for a $50,000 postdoctoral fellowship. Deadline is December 8, 2022, 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST)
