The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Research Programs is accepting applications for the NEH Summer Stipends program. The purpose of this program is to stimulate new research in the humanities and its publication. The Summer Stipends program provides $6,000 to support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. NEH funds may support recipients’ compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research. Projects may begin as early as May 1, 2021.
Applicants holding tenured or tenure-track positions at institutions of higher education must be nominated by their institutions. Williams is able to nominate two tenured/tenure-track faculty members; eligible faculty requiring institutional nomination will receive detailed information from the grants office outlining the internal nomination process.
Non-tenure-track/tenured faculty and emeritus faculty may apply for an NEH Summer Stipend individually, without going through the nomination process. The NEH application deadline is September 23, 2020.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who have been living in the United States or its jurisdictions for at least the three years immediately preceding the application deadline.
Program details and guidelines can be found on the NEH website. Please contact Bridget Wiffin, Director of the Grants Office, with any questions. The NEH also welcomes questions directly. Members of the Summer Stipends program staff can be reached at [email protected] or 202-606-8200.
